PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING ASSOCIATE

UPDATE 03/22/2021: As of today, we are no longer accepting official applications, but feel free to send a resumé for future opportunities.

Date: March 12, 2021. Open until filled. Target date: by March 30, 2021.

We are authors, artists, and explorers and we need your help! We want to focus on our creative works—books, teaching, and field arts products (art supplies)—so we need help running the product development and marketing side of our business, which is growing. Here’s the scoop:

Contract Work: Product Development & Marketing Associate for Exploring Overland and Field Arts Institute, which are solely owned and managed by Roseann & Jonathan Hanson.

This is independent, part-time contract work (not based full time at an office) and a great opportunity for a highly organized, creative, motivated, multi-tasking person who loves outdoor adventure, nature, publishing, marketing, and field arts. We need a person who works independently, thoroughly, and reliably without a lot of chasing and nagging and oversight, and who likes varied work and challenges.

Our companies are based in Tucson, Arizona, and a Tucson- or Southwest-based person would be preferable though not mandatory.

The workflow will change throughout the year. Hours and work schedule will be based on product and book development and launches, marketing campaigns, and event preparation.

The Product Development & Marketing Associate will work closely with Roseann and Jonathan to assist with successfully planning, creating, delivering, marketing, and managing products (including books and field arts products). Tasks include:

    • Research for Products: deep dives and thorough vetting of supplies for books and field arts products and preparing reports for cost comparisons for production;

    • Research for Marketing and Sales: learn and track social media marketing opportunities and make recommendations; find and track book festivals and award opportunities and assist with applications; find and create recommendations for book sales platforms beyond Amazon; find sources and track sending out book samples to media;

    • Create and Manage Social Media Campaigns: work with Roseann and Jonathan to develop marketing strategies and execute them, working in Adobe products to create collateral, and in various social media platforms to place and track and manage ads.

    • Create and Manage Book Promotions on Sales Platforms: work with Roseann and Jonathan to plan and execute promotions on platforms such as Amazon and Goodreads;

    • Website: assist with updating website via Squarespace platform;

    • Supply Ordering: tracking supplies and placing orders when needed;

    • Customer Service: when we travel, assist in customer service online.

Remote work: The vast majority of the work will be done independently via computer, Zoom, and phone.

On site work: Opportunities may arise in late 2021 and beyond to assist with in-person events. Travel and expenses will be covered if these opportunities arise.

Requirements: highly computer literate; fluent in Google Suite / Drive and word processing and spreadsheet software; fluent in Adobe products such as InDesign and/or Photoshop with the skills to create social media collateral and to assist with website; fluent with online meeting Zoom platform, social media and other web services (or demonstrated ability to learn new web interfaces quickly); fluent in website platforms especially Squarespace or demonstrated ability to learn quickly; highly organized, capable of multi-tasking, working without constant oversight, and deliver tasks on time; must be friendly but professional when representing our companies; comfortable with customer service and managing issues in a professional manner; familiar with field science, arts, and overland adventure community; past work in marketing and graphic design a plus. Modern Apple computer with latest OS and high-speed, stable internet connection.

Compensation: Depending on experience, start at $20 per hour plus travel expenses if warranted.
